Drew 22 v 22
We went into our first home match of the season looking to beat Kent with an under-strength side; Ringo working, Danny-O with an injured arm, Del on holiday and Toady away, meant it was going to be a heads-down-and-give-it-your-best-shot-affair. And that's what we did! We had a dream start winning the first quarter 8-3 and we defended the lead from there-on. Kent however recovered and ultimately lead 22-21 going into the final frame. However the day was saved and with fantastic support from all our teams, we managed to win the final frame, get the draw and maintain our third place position in the Region.
Congratulations to Sean Watson for getting a long overdue 3/4. I'm sure this will bolster his confidence and see a return to form at County that he richly deserves. Joint men of the match goes to Craig Wilson and the mad-disher, Gary Sefton, both who got 4/4.
Congratulations also to Steve Keen playing for the C and showing everyone how to approach a game. He travelled all the way from Hayes, got to Reading nice and early, watched the C team play 43 frames without a murmer of complaint, got up cold and went and won the deciding frame - class!
Now we are over the Kent hurdle, I look forward to giving London everything we've got and consolidating our third place position overall.
Men C:
Won 23 v 21
After a tense start to what was the C teams biggest game for centuries, we lost the 1st qtr 5-6. With the nerves fraying a little bit, we lost the 2nd qtr 4-7. Being anything but the least bit bothered, Trevor and I (Deano) made the inspired substitutions we required and then went into battle. Winning the 1st six frames of the 3rd qtr to be leading 15-13 and just trailing by the 1 frame 16-17 at end of the 3rd qtr we won the 3rd qtr 7-4. In the finale qtr, we made the one change who, just so happened, had not played all day and then wud have play the 44th and final frame, but we"ll come to that in a second. We won three of the 1st four, shared the next 2 to be level, then decided to let the dog loose (who let the dog out). He doggedly (!!!) put us into the lead but by the 9th frame we were all level at 21 apiece. It came down to the grinder (Greenwood) who does what he does best and put us through the mill by winning a shade cosily (ha). It went 22-21 we were on the hill with Steve (billy big bollox) Keene playing the last!!!! Was it ever in doubt? I don’t think so. Not played a game and this to win the match. Inspired captaincy they call it, Stevie won thus winning us the match 23-21. It was a superb team performance with the men of the match being the whole of the C-team (Sean Sehmi 4/4 and Guiseppe D’Imperio 3/4 combined age 34 ; Lee Greenwood 3/4 real age 34) . So the question is, any good?
