Match Report Away to Sussex 17/05/09

Men A:
won 21 v 23
Finally a win, however not a very good win. We were in my opinion about 5 frames short of what we should have achieved. The first session was good. We had a flying start winning the session 8v3. We won the second session and were comfortably in control. We then proceeded to lose the last 2 sessions and instead of winning the match at a canter left it to a last frame to secure the win
Players played well in general but it’s the concentration factor in ensuring that they make each frame count. I feel this is where we are lacking. Two new players were brought in – Paul Duncan and Charlie Pinfield. Both performed admirably winning 2 out of 4 and 1 out of 2 respectively.
I won’t comment on the behaviour of the Sussex team which I felt directly resulted in the dire performance in the last session. The captain, who was a thoroughly decent guy, apologised to me on numerous occasions and has felt the need to apologise officially on our website. I don’t think anything further needs to be said on this matter.
Man of Match: Peter Lofts who won 4 out 4 and more importantly demonstrated he was prepared to graft and grind out results. Please keep it up!

Men B:
won 20 v 24
We had a good start, won the first 5 frames finish the first quarter with 8v3, but lost the next quarter. Our players managed to pull back their performances and won our third quarter. Finally finished the last quarter with 9v2.
Outstanding Performance: John Harling all 4 games and Jack Davies won 3 out of 4 games.

Men C:
won 13 v 31
The atmosphere is brilliant on the day, the team bash out their best quality. We won the first quarter 7v4, second quarter 11v0, third quarter 7v4 and last quarter with 6v5. The whole team deserve the title of “Men of Match”.
Outstanding Performance: Scott Matthew, Giuseppe D’Imperio & Jon Ashby all won 4 out of 4 games.

Ladies:
lost 29 v 15
Three ducks once again this month. Berkshire Ladies just didn’t get the luck we deserve on the day. First quarter we lost 8v3, second quarter lost 6v5, third quarter 8v3 and last quarter we virtually given up the match with 7v4.
Outstanding Performance: Ann Middleton & Barbara Nicholls both won 3 out of 4 games.

Comments

Berkshire B team

I thought the B Team actually lost the 3rd set 6-5, This left us 18-15 down. A great fightback produced 9 wins from the following 10 frames. We were 24-19 up going into the last frame. Unfortunately our Captain was denied the opportunity of getting 3/4 as his opponent dished from the break. All in all it was a great comeback. Which leaves us in 3rd place 9 points ahead of our next opponents Kent. A good win should see us close the gap on Surrey or London ( or both )as they are playing each other.

Come on the Berkshire.......  Surprised
