Match Report Away to Kent 07/02/10

Men A:
Won 26 v 18
A nice start! Very close match. We lost the fist session 6-5. A few of our players showed early signs of nerves playing for the As in particular Giuseppe and Craig Wilson. We however, took control of the match with a great second session. We won that session 9-2. We then won the third and fourth sessions 6-5 respectively to seal the victory, especially with a nice break dish finish by Alan King.
Outstanding Performance: Keith Walls & Maurice Sheehan both won 4 out 4

Men B:
Lost 24 v 20
Kent played very well and caught us by surprise. Chances came and Kent players were able to take them as how it came but our players didn’t seemed to have much run on the day. It was a disappointing result and our players believe that we should have won the match.
Outstanding Performance: Mick Worsfold, John Harling & Gary Sefton won 3 out of 4 games

Men C:
Lost 20 v 24
The match started and straight away we were under the kosh with 3v0 down then 7v2 down cue the comeback. We then won the next 7 on the spin to be 9-7 up. We continue to swap frames and were 15v13 up, that’s as good as it got we lost the next 6.
As a squad of 24 players it was quite disappointing to only have 16 players on the day as we had asked the squad to all attend. Thus being so we put out what we thought was the best starting line up we could. I hope it was a game where first time nerves took over because some of the pool just wasn’t pool enough.
Outstanding Performance: Chris McKnight who won 4 out of 4 games, Neil Cameron and Dan Tollit won 3 out of 4 games

Ladies:
Lost 37 v 7
Despite losing two of our best players from the team, we ended up with the same result as last season. New girls Jo and Sarah both won 1 frame for us each and settle well within the team. The team atmosphere was superb, everyone was sitting together and support the team, well done the ladies.
Outstanding Performance: Dom Chiu who won 2 out of 4 games

The 'As'

A superb performance from the As considering we were 7-5 down at one point. From that moment we opened our legs and showed our class. An hour later we took about 13 of the next 16 frames and grabbed the match by the crackers. Kent put up some late resistance but for once Berkshire kept their heads on and made sure of the victory against probably the most under-strengthed Kent team in some years. Jordan Church and Ian Hubbard were class acts for Kent but the supporting cast were unable to back up the two stars. You had to fear the worst seeing Keith Walls, John Shiel and Craig Wilson at 4, 5 and 6 but some solid pool and great support from all the A team players made it a satisfying sundays work for Berkshire.

Good debuts from new boys Giuseppe and Scott Matthews. Scott was seen holding his head in his hands, chomping on his lunch and muttering how he couldnt believe how difficult it was but still managed to put some frames on the board. Giuseppes' finish in his last frame proved that he has the minerals for A team pool. Justin Stokes chucked the most unusual strop of the day when he moaned at his own team mates for trying to support him with a "nice and steady Justin" as he was on a black. Alan King wore a pair of trainers, which came in handy as he broke , potted 5 off the break and dished up while running round the table. Vikas did the noble thing and dropped himself for Uzzell in the last set - only for Uzz to be broke and dished without getting a shot. Mo Sheehan and Keith " the wonder" Walls won 4 out of 4 which just goes to show that any monkey who can hold a cue can get into the Berkshire A side and do a job. When even John Shiel manages 3 you know that something must be wrong. Sefton played excellent stuff all day and got no reward with only one win. Likewise Rob Sparks deserved better than the one frame having had a terrible roll off in his last match. We had to wait until his fourth frame before we got to see Brad "do a Brad". Up and down table the white kissed of three balls and then landed perfectly to complete 2 out of 4 on the day.

Hampshire next . Lets get the second "W" on the board and build up some momentum heading into the clashes with London and Surrey.
