A big turnout for the 11th Berkshire Open yesterday, with 55 players from Region 7 and beyond.
After a long drawn battle between Maurice Sheehan and Vikas Sabharwal, Maurice came out with a tight win of 4-3 in the Final. Outstanding performance from Bob Love and Videsh Sabharwal saw them through from start all the way to the Semi Finals. The Quarter Finalists were Neil Cameron, Del Sim, Granville Fowle and Robert Uzzell. All in all, the cup competition went really well with some really tight situations. For all the results please see the results chart.
In the Plate competition, Keith Walls beat John Shiel 3-0 in the Final. The other Semi Finalists were Hughie Sutherland and Scott Matthews.

Men A
Lost: 26v18
The match was a struggle all the way through, pull back a few times but did not manage to grab the trophy at the end. There were more or less 10 dishes from the opponents, the Hants team has improved immensely from previous season. Granville Fowle as a first timer for the Berkshire A team played well. Some solid performance also seen on the day, and so as some of the disappointing performance, RU included, hee…hee...
Outstanding Performance: Peter Loft & Sefton Payne, both won 4 out of 4
Men B
Lost: 26v18
Frank Callaghan did well as a first timer for the B team, managed to win 2 out of 4. Disappointment from 3 players who didn’t manage to win any frame. A referee was caught refereeing games sitting down. Referee should stand up while refereeing. Senior referee should be called to address this during the match.
Outstanding Performance: Steve Ring won 4 out of 4, Scott Matthews won both of his games.
Men C
Won: 19v25
Lost 6-5 in the first quarter then won 8 frames on the trot, turn the match around to 13v6. Disappointment in the last quarter, only managed to win 3 frames. Two quacks in the team, you know who you are! Team selection still need to be completed early enough between team captains to allow the line up to be done well in advance.
Outstanding Performance: Dean Preston & Dean Hardesty both won 4 out of 4. Ben Kiely won both of his games and Ann Middleton won 3 out of 4.
Ladies:
Draw: 22v22
Disappointment with a draw as a result, it could have been close to a win for Berkshire. Poor performance this match was Dominique, who only manage to win 1 out of 4 games. Two poor ducks for the Berkshire ladies! RU was well pleased with the ladies team performance this season. First quarter with 3v8 up, second quarter 7v4 down and 5v6 on the last two quarters.
Outstanding Performance: Michaela Vaughan, Lisa Floyd & Ann Middleton, all won 4 out of 4.

Mens A
Draw: 22v22
This is a remarkable result after taken a 21-13 down, manage to win the last 9 frames out of the 10 frames.
Personal thanks to Steve Ring, Gary Hoad and Brad Robinson to give a final push to get a draw against Sussex.
Outstanding Performance: Vikas won 4 out of 4, Sefton Payne, Lucky and Brad all won 3 out of 4.
Men B
Lost: 20v24
A bit of a disappointment, bearing in mind we won 3 out of the four quarters of the match. The team has an issue with number of players available in this match, especially losing Chris Stocker.
Outstanding Performance: Granville Fowle won 4 out of 4.
Men C
Lost: 19v25
The team was left with 10 players after filling up the B team, ended up taking a player from the ladies team to help out, thanks must give to Claire Dormer for helping. Ashley Dingley stepped in as substitute, complete all the necessary administrations and running around for the team. Great work and thanks, Kiddo! Many thanks to Baron Staples for his great support to the C team.
Outstanding Performance: Terry Dingley won 4 out of 4, Joey Alpino & Adam Haywood, both won 3 of 4.
Ladies
Draw: 22v22
Could have been a better results, at one point, the score was 17-13 up. We have a couple of players short, Bev played for the team the first time, considerably not bad at all. Kirsty played great but just very unlucky in-off on the last frame. Everyone did play very well on the day. Both Ladies teams have a fantastic atmosphere with great supports from both teams.
Outstanding Performance: Jacquie Vann won 4 out of 4. Claire Dormer and Sarah Newton won 3 out of 4.
